The Wistow Parish Plan was completed and published in August 2005 following a government initiative to give rural communities a better opportunity in running their own affairs and creating a vision to guide future decisions.
The plan covers everything of relevance including social, economic and environmental issues to all who live in the village. Great care was taken to ensure that everyone had the opportunity to participate in the preparation of the plan and that it addressed the needs and wishes of the entire community.
Key elements of the participative process were the circulation of a questionnaire to every household and holding an open day where villagers could discuss issues. Both of these initiatives were very well supported. Support was also forthcoming from politicians at local and national level.
The report and action plan have been fully endorsed by the Parish Council. The actions will require the full support and participation of the whole community to help deliver the benefits we all hope will flow from this initiative.
